An inquest into the death of fashion designer Alexander McQueen found that the emotionally unbalanced designer downed a "substantial" amount of cocaine and sleeping pills and a small amount of tranquilizers before hanging himself on February 11—the eve of his mother's funeral. According to his psychiatrist, McQueen had mixed anxiety and depressive disorder and repeatedly missed appointments. McQueen felt pressure at work, and "felt it was the only area of his life where he felt he had achieved something," his psychiatrist said, adding that after the death of McQueen's mother the designer felt "that was the one link that had gone from his life and there was very little to live for." McQueen also left a suicide note.
