Note to Megan Fox: never piss off your director. Deadline Hollywood first reported on Wednesday that the love-to-hate-her screen siren is being written out of the upcoming Transformers 3 and The Wrap later confirmed. A source told Deadline Hollywood that though “giving Shia [LaBeouf, the franchise’s star] a new love interest makes more sense for the story,” the decision was ultimately up to director Michael Bay. The Wrap also reported that Prince of Persia star Gemma Arterton is in discussions with Bay for the coveted role, but that a trifecta of models—Bar Rafaeli, Miranda Kerr, and Brooklyn Decker—are also up for consideration. Although Bay publicly welcomed Fox back for the third Transformers installment on his website in October, Fox’s scathing comments to Wonderland magazine last July seemingly put the final nail in her coffin. The actress had come under fire last summer for likening Bay to Hitler and stating that “he's a nightmare to work for.” Fox's rep told People that it was her decision not to return for the third film, adding, "She wishes the franchise the best."
