Missouri’s Republican governor was charged Friday with felony computer tampering, the second felony charge against him in two months. St. Louis prosecutors say the governor and former NAVY Seal, Eric Greitens, stole electronic data from a veterans charity he founded by disclosing data on the charity’s top donors to raise funds for his political campaign in 2016. That charge adds to an unrelated invasion of privacy indictment against him for allegedly taking a naked photo of a woman with whom he was having an affair and threatening to release it if she went public. Greitens, who is facing mounting calls to resign over the criminal charges, dismissed the latest charges against him as a “smear” orchestrated against him as part of a “political witch hunt.” He claims St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, who is handling both cases against him, filed the new charge because she faced setbacks in the invasion-of-privacy case. “Her case is falling apart—so today, she’s brought a new one,” Greitens said Friday.
