The Secret Service said that it is looking into whether or not claims that a group of hackers stole copies of Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s tax returns are true. The person or persons claiming responsibility for the alleged theft are asking $1 million to keep the records private. “At this time there is no evidence that our systems have been compromised or that there was any unauthorized access to the data in question,” said a representative for Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the accounting firm that handles Romney’s files. Representatives for Romney’s campaign, which have only released the Bain Capital co-founder’s filings for 2010 and an estimate for 2011, declined to comment.
