Most Americans do not support the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, according to a poll released Monday by Quinnipiac University. Forty-two percent of respondents said that they supported Kavanaugh’s confirmation, while 48 percent were against it. But the respondents were starkly divided by race, gender, and party. Eighty-four percent of Republicans supported Kavanaugh’s confirmation, compared to only 8 percent of Democrats. There was a similar divide across racial lines: 51 percent of white respondents sided with the nominee, but only 11 percent of black respondents felt the same. There was also a significant, yet smaller, gender gap: 49 percent of men supported Kavanaugh, but only 37 percent of women agreed.
