An additional 2.4 million people filed initial claims for unemployment last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday, bringing the total number of Americans who have sought aid since the start of the coronavirus lockdown to over 38 million. The latest figures are down from 3 million who filed last week and the 6.9 million who made claims in late March.
