Morehouse College Will Enroll Transgender Men

The new policy will apply to students enrolling in fall 2020.

Morehouse College, the nation’s only college for African-American men, will formally allow transgender men to enroll in the fall of 2020. The board of trustees of the Atlanta-based school voted Saturday on the new policy, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “In a rapidly changing world that includes a better understanding of gender identity, we’re proud to expand our admissions policy to consider trans men who want to be part of an institution that has produced some of greatest leaders in social justice, politics, business and the arts for more than 150 years,” Morehouse Vice President Terrance Dixon said in a statement. Under the policy all students must self-identify as male, so students who transition to female will not be allowed to take classes without special approval.
