Elon Musk is making a desperate bid to get back in Donald Trump’s good books by resharing the president’s inflammatory social media posts about the Los Angeles protests.
Musk appears eager to move past their recent explosive bust-up after Trump warned the tech billionaire he’d face “serious consequences” if he switched allegiances and funded Democratic candidates.
As an apparent olive branch, Musk reshared a screenshot on X of Trump’s Truth Social post claiming L.A. has been “invaded and occupied by illegal aliens and criminals” amid the protests and riots against federal immigration raids in the city.

Trump’s remarks were originally posted by Vice President JD Vance, who called for “decisive leadership” in L.A. and declared that the president will not “tolerate rioting and violence.” Musk reshared Vance’s post, accompanied by two American flag emojis.

Less than 10 minutes later, Musk reshared another Trump Truth Social post slamming California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of doing a “horrible job” stopping what the president labeled “troublemakers and insurrectionists.”
For months, Musk was seen as the most influential figure in Trump’s inner circle while driving the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) cost-cutting mandate. Many predicted the unlikely bromance between Musk and Trump—not known for willingly sharing the spotlight—would eventually implode.
That’s exactly what happened last Thursday in spectacular fashion with a brutal back-and-forth on social media.
In one corner, Trump accused Musk of going “crazy” over the president’s plan to scrap an electric vehicle (EV) mandate implemented under the Biden administration. Trump also suggested the “easiest way to save” billions would be to ax the government subsidies benefiting Musk’s companies.
In response, Musk fired back, claiming that Trump “would have lost the election” without the hundreds of millions of dollars Musk pumped into his 2024 campaign.
Speaking to NBC News on Saturday, Trump said he has no interest in reconciling with Musk and warned him against bankrolling Democratic candidates out of spite.
“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump said. “He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that.”
During his furious posting spree last Thursday, Musk also warned Trump’s tariffs would spark a U.S. recession later this year and called for the president to be impeached and replaced with Vance.
Then Musk escalated things further, dropping what he called the “really big bomb,” claiming “Trump is in the Epstein files” and that this is why the government hasn’t released new documents beyond those already leaked.
In another apparent bid to cool the feud, Musk has since deleted many of his harshest attacks on Trump—including the post tying him to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
