Napolitano Visits Tennessee

Floods

Urges victims to seek assistance from FEMA.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano visited Tennessee’s flood zone on Saturday morning to urge anyone affected by the disaster to seek assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. According to Napolitano, $4.1 million in individual assistance has already been approved, with 16,000 applications turned in and 695 inspections done by the early hours of Saturday. Napolitano was joined by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate and Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. The damage in Nashville is estimated to be at least $1.5 billion after the record rain fall caused flood waters and left 33 dead in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi.
