The man accused of murdering 50 people in last month’s deadly mosque attacks in New Zealand has been ordered to undergo mental-health tests to judge if he’s fit to stand trial. Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, appeared in a courtroom Friday morning via a video link from his high-security prison. The room was full of people related to the victims. The camera was turned away from the public gallery so he couldn’t see them, the BBC reports. Tarrant didn’t speak during the hearing and wasn’t required to enter a plea. High court judge Cameron Mander ordered that he undergo two assessments to judge the state of his mental health. Tofazzal Alam, a survivor of the attack on the Linwood mosque, told reporters outside the court: “I lost 50 friends whom I use to see in the mosque every Friday. And during the shooting, I couldn’t see him. I want to see how he feels after killing 50 people, so that’s why I’m here today.”
