NYPD Error Let Sex Offender Roam Free—Now He’s a Murder Suspect
COSTLY MISTAKE
An NYPD clerical error allowed a registered sex offender to stay on the streets for nearly a month after he randomly attacked a woman—and cops now believe that gave him time to murder another woman. Linden Beaton, 31, is suspected of killing 69-year-old Johynita Jordan whose body was discovered Thursday in an abandoned house in Stapleton, Staten Island. The alleged murder happened after Beaton beat 57-year-old home-health aide Beatrice Kaliku. Cops launched an investigation into Beaton but it ended prematurely after an employee “mistakenly labeled the job closed, and the supervisor did not catch the error,” NYPD officials admitted. The mistake came to light after Kaliku’s family contacted police to ask why cops hadn’t talked to her following her release from hospital. Beaton was captured and put into custody on January 26. There’s surveillance video of him arguing with Jordan near the street where her body was found. It was the last time she was seen alive.
