Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) met one-on-one Wednesday night to discuss their respective ambitions for seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, The New York Times reports. Sources cited by the Times said both agreed that they are seriously thinking about seeking the nomination, but neither sought support from the other or tried to talk the other one out of running. The politicians are said to have met at Warren’s Washington condo at her request. News of the meeting comes after months of speculation on the matter, with Warren having said in late September that she plans to “take a hard look” at a White House run in 2020. Sanders said a short time later that he will “probably run” in 2020 if he thinks he’s the best candidate, prompting concerns that the two senators running against each other could diminish support for both of them and give the nomination to a less progressive candidate.
