President Obama on Wednesday sent a team of officials from the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to the Mexican border to determine whether a National Guard deployment would help deal with the ongoing immigration crisis. Before sending the team, the White House had been resistant to Republicans calling for such a move because most of the unaccompanied minors were turning themselves in voluntarily. On Monday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced he was sending as many as 1,000 Texas guardsmen to the border. Obama is scheduled to meet with the leaders of Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador on Friday.
