Is the ‘Cowgirl Spring’ Trend Really a Thing—Or Are Celebs Forcing It?

Are we really about to hop in the saddle and giddy up for Cowgirl Spring?

On Feb. 20, Bella Hadid gave us a peek into what could be the dawn of a new season, debuting Bella Hadid x Frankies Bikinis—a Western-inspired swimwear collection with a distinct SoCal twist.

Created in collaboration with her childhood best friend, Francesca Aiello, the collection, with its suede bikini tops and breezy gingham coverups, radiates unmistakable farm girl vibes. Although the cowgirl aesthetic has gone through multiple iterations—coquette cowgirl, coastal cowgirl—this latest launch from Hadid has me wondering if the era of “cowgirl spring” is upon us.

If we look at the last two years of pop culture, the answer is clear and resounding: Yee-haw.

For those unfamiliar with the aesthetic, “Cowgirl Spring” is “country life” but without all the dirt. Think puff-sleeved crop tops, bootcut jeans, and Western belts—it’s basically country chic, but make it “It Girl.”

The trend arguably began in 2023 with the release of Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, an ’80s inspired pop album wrapped in a bedazzled Western aesthetic that launched the 27-year-old’s career into the stratosphere almost overnight, even garnering the singer a Grammy in 2025. With certified bangers like “Pink Pony Club” and Roan’s signature drag-inspired Western aesthetic, “Cowgirl Spring” was already stomping around in its spurs.

“[I’m] back with the Western boots and fringe jackets because Chappell Roan wrote the perfect lesbian country song,” one TikToker declared in their video.

Then, Beyoncé dropped her Grammy-award-winning album Cowboy Carter in 2024, and, well, let’s just say fashion girlies everywhere were starting to ride that trend faster than cowboys at a rodeo—only with more rhinestones and less actual horseback riding.

“Beyoncé said we’re going country, so giddyup,” a TikToker announced in a video titled “Beyoncé’s Yeehaw Agenda,” as if the Queen herself had given it the ole Texas stamp of approval.

Beyoncé‘s hotly anticipated Cowboy Carter stadium tour—one of the hottest live tickets in entertainment—launches April 28. You can expect a rush on cowboy hats and boots from concertgoers who, as in previous tours, will likely be dressing themed for the occasion.

From Hadid’s swimwear to Roan’s chart-topping anthems to Beyoncé’s country-infused album, Cowgirl Spring has galloped its way from a quirky idea to a full-fledged cultural movement.

If you want to hop on the Cowgirl Spring trend, then consider heading to your nearest Aritzia, haven for spring and summer styles, to pick up a mini sundress or a ruffled crop top to pair with any bootcut jeans you have laying in your closet. And you can’t go wrong with a classic pair of cowgirl boots from Steve Madden (I recommend the brown suede color) to complete the look.

If pop culture is any indicator, we’re all in for one wild ride. So grab your boots, your fringe, and maybe even a cowboy hat and lasso—you’ll need them for this season’s trend.

Yee-haw, indeed.
