Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said on Friday he was “disappointed in the outcome” of the Noor Salman trial. Salman was found not guilty of aiding and abetting her husband, Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub in 2016. In his statement, Demings said he knew “the victims and/or families are more disappointed.” “Many may feel that justice has not prevailed; however, the system of justice has spoken,” he added. Salman’s family also spoke out through a spokesperson after the verdict, saying they were “elated.” “We’re very sorry for the family members and friends of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting, and also the survivors of that horrible attack,” the spokeswoman told reporters. “We really hope the best for her future and we want people to know that she is not guilty. She is innocent. For those people who still think that there is a question, there is no question. A judge has decided.”
