Despite earning more than $18 million so far in his career, and $5 million this year, Columbus Blue Jackets player Jack Johnson has filed for bankruptcy. The reason: his parents. While Johnson only said in a statement, that “I picked the wrong people who led me down the wrong path,” those wrong people were reportedly his parents. After dumping hockey super-agent Pat Brisson in 2008, Johnson turned over control to his parents. His mother, Tina, reportedly took out at least $15 million in high-interest loans from nonconventional lenders against her son’s future earnings. Johnson’s parents also reportedly bought a multi-million dollar home in Manhattan Beach, California and spent more than $800,000 on upgrades. Johnson now claims assets of “less than $50,000” and debts of “more than $10 million.” He has reportedly cut off all contact with his family.
