Trump Teases a Third Term at National Prayer Breakfast

THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM

The suggestion came despite it being constitutionally prohibited.

President Donald Trump, 78, teased the idea of a third term during his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Mediaite reported. Less than a month into his second term, Trump alluded that he might pursue a constitutionally-prohibited 2028 run for presidency, claiming that someone told him, “I don’t think you can” run again. The National Prayer Breakfast entailed two events— one at Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol and another in the ballroom of the Washington Hilton. It was at the second location that Trump slipped in his plausible intentions for a third run. While joking about how he was offered the option to attend the events virtually, the president said, “No I want to be here with you. And I have been here with you. And I do that despite the fact that they say I can’t run again.” He added with a chuckle: “Somebody said, ‘I don’t think you can.’ Oooh! Heh-heh. No I want to be with you regardless. And it’s an honor.” This is not the first time Trump has joked that the two-term limit is more of a suggestion to him than an enforced law. Republican Rep. Andy Ogles introduced an amendment to the 22nd Amendment in an attempt to allow Trump to run again on Jan. 23.
