President Trump Expected to Offer Compromise in Exchange for Border Wall During Saturday Speech

President Trump is expected stand firm on a call for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, but offer Congressional Democrats incentives to approve money for his project during an announcement Saturday, according to reports. While Trump has floated declaring a national emergency to bypass Congress, he is not expected to do so on Saturday, according to Bloomberg. Instead, Trump, who said on Twitter “I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown,” from the White House at 3 p.m., is expected to offer to pass a law that extends Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals protection if the Democrats greenlight $5.7 billion for his wall, AXIOS reported Saturday. The President is also expected to offer Democrats the extension of legal status of immigrants with Temporary Protected Status. AXIOS said that Vice President Mike Pence and Jared Kushner have spearheaded the potential compromise. Trump has refused to pass a budget unless he receives money for the border wall, spurring the country into a nearly month-long partial government shutdown.
