Prince Philip apologized to the woman injured in a car crash earlier this month when he was driving his Land Rover, according to Reuters. Queen Elizabeth’s 97-year-old husband said he was “deeply sorry” and wished the woman, Emma Fairweather, “speedy recovery from a very distressing experience” in a letter that was published by the Sunday Mirror. Philip wasn’t injured when his SUV flipped over after colliding with a Kia carrying Feairweather on Jan. 17, near a royal residence in Norfolk, England. The accident left Fairweather with a broken wrist, and a nine-month-old baby in the car suffered cuts on her knees. The prince’s mea culpa was signed “yours truly,” Reuters notes. Fairweather said to the newspaper that Philip’s letter was a “nice touch.” “It is a difficult letter to write – to know what would be the right thing to say without making me more upset,” she reportedly said. Philip was warned by police just two days after his accident for driving without a seat belt.
