Report: ICE Drops 211 Migrants at Texas Bus Station With No Plans to House Them

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers dropped off over 200 undocumented immigration at an El Paso Greyhound station on Sunday evening with no immediate plans to house them, CNN reports. Sgt. Robert Gomez, a spokesman with the El Paso Police Department, told the network bus officials notified police about the 211 migrants at around 8:00 p.m. According to Gomez, the bus officials were not notified the immigrants were arriving and they were attempting to board buses without buying tickets. “All of a sudden a bunch of people show up; ICE drops them off,” Greyhound spokeswoman Crystal Booker told CNN. “We weren't expecting it. We are not given prior notice.” Gomez also said some of the immigrants—which included families and small children—were left standing in the cold due to the small size of the bus terminal waiting area. Four buses reportedly arrived so the immigrants could sit and stay warm. “We weren't going to put 200 people on the streets of El Paso on a cold night. We wouldn't do that,” Gomez said. Officials then reportedly found housing for the immigrants at a hotel nearby and a local Catholic school. A statement from ICE didn’t directly address the Greyhound incident, but said the agency was attempting to “mitigate the risk of holding family units past the timeframe allotted.”
