President Trump is expected to name Catholic activist and Washington commercial lawyer Pat Cipollone to replace Donald McGahn as White House Counsel, The Washington Post reports. Citing a source familiar with the situation, the Post said Cipollone would take over the White House legal office in the next week provided that a security clearance review goes smoothly. Cipollone, who has practiced in commercial litigation, trade regulation, and health-care fraud, is said to have vast experience in federal investigations and “prepublication negotiations” over media reports. He is also well-regarded by many of Trump’s allies, including Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who has previously described him as her “spiritual mentor.”
