Rob Goldstone—the British music publicist who set up the infamous Trump Tower meeting between presidential campaign officials and a Russian lawyer in June 2016—has said he wishes he could erase it from history, and that he should have listened to the “little voice in his head” that told him it was a bad idea. Goldstone told NBC News’ Cynthia McFadden that Donald Trump Jr. came to the meeting expecting “opposition research” from the Russian government, but it ultimately failed to materialize. He blamed the Trump campaign for allowing the meeting to go ahead, saying he knows nothing about politics. He said his email to Trump Jr., in which he promised material that “would incriminate Hillary,” was “puffed up,” and that he had no direct knowledge that the Kremlin was trying to help Donald Trump, adding: “That’s what I do. I’m a publicist.” Goldstone is not facing any charges.
