An ISIS-inspired man stole a large van with the intent of “plowing it through a crowd full of people” at the National Harbor, prosecutors allege in a motion filed Monday in Maryland court. The filing claims that Rondell Henry for years harbored “hatred” towards “disbelievers” of the Muslim faith, and watched videos of foreign terrorists beheading victims abroad. Inspired by the Nice truck attack in France that killed 86 people, prosecutors claim, Rondell searched the area for a large vehicle to steal because he thought his four-door sedan wouldn’t kill enough people. He eventually allegedly settled for stealing a U-Haul he found in Virginia. After failing to carry out an attack at Dulles International Airport, the filing added, he drove to Maryland’s National Harbor with the intent of creating “panic and chaos,” the “same as what happened in France.” “I was just going to keep driving and driving and driving,” he reportedly said. “I wasn’t going to stop.” However, Rondell did not find a sizable crowd to attack and decided to break into a boat on the harbor and hide overnight. According to the filing police found the stolen U-Haul the next morning and apprehended Rondell after he jumped over a security fence.
