Failed Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore has issued a public plea for money to help him fight a defamation lawsuit filed by a woman who says he molested her when she was 14. In a statement posted on Facebook Friday, Moore portrays the lawsuit as part of an attack waged by the “liberal media,” “gays,” “lesbians,” and “transgenders” to derail his “influence in the 2018 elections.” “My resources have been depleted and I have struggled to make ends meet,” he writes, adding that his legal fees could top $100,000. He makes no mention of Leigh Corfman, the woman who filed the lawsuit in January, instead referencing only a “vicious attack from lawyers in Washington D.C. and San Francisco.” Corfman, one of several women who came forward during Moore's bid for Alabama Senate to allege sexual misconduct, is not seeking financial compensation as part of her lawsuit, demanding instead a public apology for remarks she says publicly maligned her. Moore suggested her allegations against him were “politically motivated” and “malicious” lies.
