British intelligence has accused Russia’s military intelligence service of carrying out a string of cyberattacks, including one on the U.S. Democratic National Committee in 2016. The U.K.’s National Cyber Security Centre says the GRU targets also included the World Anti-Doping Agency, privately owned Russian media outlets, and firms in Russia and Ukraine. The NCSC said it has assessed “with high confidence” that the GRU was “almost certainly responsible” for the cyberattacks. “The GRU’s actions are reckless and indiscriminate: They try to undermine and interfere in elections in other countries; they are even prepared to damage Russian companies and Russian citizens,” said U.K. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
