An investigation has found that a leak in Russia’s Soyuz spacecraft could not have been the result of meteorite damage—and appears to have been caused deliberately. The Soyuz was docked at the International Space Station at the time the leak was discovered. Russian Space Agency Chief Dmitry Rogozin announced Tuesday that it was allegedly caused by a drill and could have been done on Earth or in space. After it was discovered, astronauts used tape to seal the leak. The hole had reportedly caused a non-life-threatening loss of pressure. “There were several attempts at drilling,” Rogozin said late Monday, noting that the instrument appeared to have been held by a “wavering hand.”
