Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab is suing a Dutch newspaper for defamation over an article claiming that the firm is linked to a leak in the Dutch parliament. In February, De Telegraaf published a story which alleged that a Dutch hacker breached the network of Kaspersky’s Utrecht office and uncovered evidence linking it to a member of the Dutch parliament acting as a spy for the Russian government. Kaspersky Lab CEO Eugene Kaspersky wrote in a blog post that he was filing the suit in part because of mounting frustration over stories linking the company to Russian intelligence. In December, the U.S. Congress banned federal agencies from using Kaspersky software after stories in The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times indicated that Israeli spies had caught Kaspersky using its software to scan computers for classified documents.
