The U.S. has informed the Kremlin that is has no intention to impose new sanctions on Russia, according to Russian state media. News agency TASS, citing an unnamed Russian foreign ministry source, reported that the U.S. told the Russian embassy in Washington, D.C. that there are no plans to add to the sanctions announced at the start of April. “I can confirm that the U.S. has notified the Russian embassy that there will be no new sanctions for some time,” the source is quoted as saying to Russian media. Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, announced Sunday that there would be fresh sanctions against Russia, but was thrown under the bus by the White House, which said Haley was “confused.” The Washington Post reported that President Trump personally intervened to put the brakes on planned new sanctions.
