Good reality TV shows bring out the spectrum of emotions in their viewers—some serve as a comfort blanket, others as a drug trip. Case in point: FOX’s absurdly popular (or is it popularly absurd?) hit The Masked Singer. “It’s edited in a way that feels like I’m on psychedelics,” explained Samantha Bee during this week’s episode of The Daily Beast Podcast. Speaking about the show—which sees “masked” celebrities perform for a panel of judges and an audience, hoping to hide their identity and out-sing their rivals—with co-host Joanna Coles and guest Jim Gaffigan, Bee continued, “I can’t handle it. I’m like, give me a drama about the Troubles in [Northern] Ireland. (That) is relaxing to my brain.” (“What is going on there? And what is the appeal?” Gaffigan added, noting that he is a big fan of judge Ken Jeong.)
