White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed the FBI “ambushed” former national security adviser Michael Flynn in a January 2017 interview. “The FBI broke standard protocol in the way they ambushed Gen. Flynn,” Sanders told reporters Tuesday afternoon. “The only reason that they did it [was they thought] it was the Trump administration and they thought they could get away with it.” Flynn has pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about his Russia contacts and work for Turkey. During a dramatic court hearing, Flynn stuck by his guilty plea Tuesday, but decided to delay his sentencing until his cooperation with the government is complete.

At the White House press conference, Sanders also reportedly noted that President Trump has asked “every agency to look and see if they have money that can be used for” border-wall funding. She said earlier in the day that the White House wants to avoid a fight over funding for Trump’s border wall and a government shutdown.
