
Piles of rubble are all that remains of Amatrice, a small town in central Italy close to the epicenter of the earthquake that struck on August 24. Located in a remote area near Umbria, Marche, and Lazio, the remote town has been all but destroyed.

Rescue workers labored thorugh the day and night to rescue citizens trapped in collapsed houses.

What was once the entrace of Hotel Rome, is now a pile of rubble. Rescue workers have been sifting through the debris searching for survivors, but many more corpses are being found as the death toll rises above 250 people.
