The world’s top-ranked men’s golfer is gearing up to go to trial over his surprise arrest before the PGA Championship in Louisville on Friday morning. Scheffler, who was briefly thrown behind bars after a scuffle with a police officer outside Valhalla Golf Club, will plead not guilty at a court appearance set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, his lawyer said. “We are going to plead not guilty and get the next court date. Could the charges be dropped? Anything is possible,” Steve Romines, who is representing the champion golfer, told reporters. “He didn’t do anything wrong. It was just a big miscommunication. It was a kind of perfect storm of circumstances.” Scheffler was charged with felony second-degree assault on a police officer, two misdemeanors, and reckless driving, according to WAVE. A “misunderstanding of traffic flow” caused Scheffler to try to drive past the cops as they were handling a traffic-related fatality further down the road, ESPN reported.
