The Supreme Court on Monday invalidated a lower court’s decision that allowed an illegal immigrant minor held in federal custody to obtain an abortion. Although the new decision won’t impact the unnamed minor, who had the abortion last October despite protests from the Trump administration, it does wipe out the precedent set by the original ruling—meaning that future women in similar situations won’t be able to use it as justification. In the second part of the decision, the Supreme Court declined to pursue disciplinary charges against the minor’s lawyers, who stood accused of misleading the Justice Department about the date of the girl’s abortion.
