Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) claimed Friday that the GOP has the votes to pass its sweeping tax overhaul. The second-ranking Senate Republican told reporters that “we’re confident in the 50 and we’d like to build on that,” after Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said he would support the legislation after winning concessions for businesses. With a slim 52-48 majority, the 50 votes would allow Republicans to pass the bill with Vice President Mike Pence making the tie-breaking vote. However, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) responded, “I don’t know how Senator Cornyn can speak for me, I speak for myself,” The New York Times reported.
