Senate Blocks Jobs Bill

President Obama's $447 billion jobs package failed to pass the Senate Tuesday as Democrats were unable to gather enough votes to overcome the Republican filibuster even before the roll call ended. The House also stood little chance of passing the House as well. Critics say raising taxes on millionaires, which the plan proposes, is a bad idea in a rough economy. Obama acknowledged Tuesday that the White House may need to "break up" the bill and send through the items individually. The Senate could vote on individual elements of the bill as soon as next week.
