Sessions Threatens to Withhold Crime-Fighting Assistance From 4 Sanctuary Cities

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened to withhold federal crime-fighting resources from four sanctuary cities struggling with gun violence on Thursday, the AP reported. Baltimore, Albuquerque, Stockton, and San Bernardino had expressed interest in a new federal program that enlists federal agents, analysts, and technology to help communities combat crime and violence. The Justice Department, however, told the cities that to be eligible for the program, they have to give federal immigration authorities access to jails and provide advance notice before releasing someone in custody who is wanted on immigration violations.
