Spain Protests Unemployment, Economy: Shocking Photos and Videos

More than 100 people have been injured in Barcelona after riot police fired blanks into a crowd of demonstrators. The violence represents a boiling point of tensions between protesters and police. For the past two weeks, the rallies over skyrocketing unemployment and the country’s economic crisis have been relatively quiet. See shocking photos and videos below.

At least 37 police officers were also injured in the brawl, officials say. The conflict is the latest flare-up in a series of demonstrations over recent weeks against government austerity measures as well as a stubbornly high unemployment rate. Protesters have been camped out in the square for weeks screaming the slogan, “Real Democracy Now.”
