State Department: No, Pompeo Did Not Bring a ‘Rocket Man’ CD to North Korea

Contrary to South Korean media reports, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not deliver an Elton John CD featuring the song “Rocket Man” to North Korean officials during his visit, the State Department said Saturday. South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo had reported on the eve of Pompeo’s trip that Trump sent a copy of the CD along with him after learning North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had not heard the hit song. Kim was said to have discussed Trump’s nickname for him, “Rocket Man,” during the pair’s summit in Singapore last month. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told NBC News on Saturday that while no such CD was delivered, Pompeo did hand over a letter for Kim from Trump. No details were offered on the contents of that letter.
