Think James Bond and his martini-fueled seduction scenes or frat house-based flicks and their endless keg party bacchanalia. There’s something about the marriage of cinema and drinking that just seems natural.
Perhaps you thought, “Pass me that Champagne, Marilyn!” when you watched The Seven Year Itch, or found your taste buds twitching as you watched The Dude down White Russians in The Big Lebowski. Maybe you were yearning for Carrie & Co. to splash a little Cosmo your way when you saw the Sex and the City movie. (We say “the” Sex and the City movie because it’s best to pretend the second one didn’t happen.)
For eager fanatics anticipating a movie’s debut, we’ll be collaborating with a series of talented mixologists to create cocktails inspired by the latest releases. Since studios can’t deliver The Hangover or a Casablanca every week, our prescribed potables can also be used to make twisty plots and overacting easier to swallow.
The first cinematic sipper is created in honor of director Zack Snyder’s girl-power action epic Sucker Punch. Mixologist Alex Straus, the guy responsible for the killer cocktails at Los Angeles hotspot Hemingway’s Lounge, created a drink that he felt was “the best of all worlds, sweet, spicy, and strong…just like any good woman!”
Sucker Punch RecipeCreated by Alex Straus of Hemingway’s Lounge
2 oz lollipop-infused Ocho Plata Tequila 1/2 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice 1/2 oz agave nectar (or to taste) 1 jalapeño slice 1 oz ruby red grapefruit juice
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake vigorously and double strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish with a few candies of your choice at the bottom of the glass.
To create the lollipop infusion, take 12 ounces of Ocho Plata Tequila and crush one large lollipop of your choice into it. Place all ingredients in an airtight container and allow 12 to 24 hours for the infusion process.
