A 19-year-old set a U.S. congressman’s office on fire because of the federal government’s ban on TikTok, according to Wisconsin officials. The Fond du Lac Police Department said the man was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning when officers found him at a strip mall where the office of House Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) is located. Police and fire officials responded to a report of fire at the strip mall around 1 a.m. Officers held off the flames using fire extinguishers until fire department personnel arrived. Police said the suspect “admitted to starting the fire in response to recent talks of a TikTok ban,” according to Fort du Lac-based newspaper The Reporter. Grothman was one of 352 representatives who voted in favor of the legislation that banned the Chinese short form video app—which is especially popular with young people—in the United States as of Sunday. TikTok currently displays a message to American users that says a ban was passed, but “President Donald Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution.”
