A school superintendent who made a racist comment about Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson resigned on Saturday, saying he “has a lot to learn.” Lynn Redden of the Onalaska school district in Texas sparked public outrage after he reacted to an online Houston Chronicle story about an ill-fated play by Watson with this remark: “When you need precision decision making you can't count on a black quarterback.” Redden, who is white and was the school district's civil rights coordinator, acknowledged in his resignation letter that the comment was “uninformed,” “hurtful” and “offensive,” according to the Chronicle. He also apologized directly to Watson, noting that the franchise quarterback could have publicly slammed him but “chose peace and positivity instead.”
