
From JFK's funeral to Mike Tyson's knock-outs, photojournalist Dan Farrell captured many of America's most iconic moments. Farrell spent his entire 50-year career at the New York Daily News. Here are some of his well-known shots.

Born Nov. 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a teacher and an educational consultant to Bureau of Child Welfare in New York City. In 1964, she was elected to the New York State Assembly. In 1969, she became the first black woman to be elected to the House of Representatives, where she served until 1983. In 1972 she ran for the Democratic presidential nomination. A social activist, she has fought tirelessly for minority education and employment opportunities.

Nuns watch the first-ever women's basketball game played at Madison Square Garden in 1975. A gathering of 11,976 came by to see Queens College play Immaculata College, and to see if the Pennsylvanians could improve on their 13-2 record. Queens won the first half, 29-28, but the bottom line is what counts and at the end, the Big Mac secured a 65-61 triumph.
