Three adults were found suffering from an apparent overdose at a California casino on Monday, sparking an investigation into whether the drugs were laced, according to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. One woman and two men were found along with a 5-month-old child at Gold Country Casino on Monday morning, and the adults appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose, police said. According to officials, the three could have potentially “ingested” heroin. The adults and child were transported to local hospitals and are currently in stable condition, while Child Protective Services was contacted “to ensure the safety of the child moving forward,” the sheriff's office said in a statement. The Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force and the sheriff's office said they would be working together to determine if the overdoses were connected to a mass overdose that occurred last week in Chico. “This is a significant public safety and public health risk,” Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said. “We are concerned that the potency of the illegal drugs on the street right now is very high or the possibility of the drugs being laced with another substance, which is causing the overdoses.”
