Three Florida children have died after becoming trapped in a freezer over the weekend, ABC News reports. According to the Suwanee County Sheriff’s Office, the children, ages 1, 4 and 6, were playing outside when the mother of one of the kids who was watching them went to use the bathroom. At that point all three are believed to have climbed into a freezer that had recently been brought to the home but was unplugged. After a frantic search by the mother and another woman living at the home, the two opened up the freezer and found the kids inside, not breathing, authorities said. The children were hospitalized but none survived. Suwannee County Sheriff Sam St. John told ABC News Monday that it appears all three suffocated after a latch fell shut on the freezer and trapped them inside. Foul play is not suspected, but the case will be sent over to the state attorney’s office for review, the sheriff's office said. St. John said he has not ruled out the possibility of charges.
