The two men behind Your Ward News, a free Toronto-area newspaper, were found guilty on Thursday of promoting hatred against women and Jewish people. James Sears and LeRoy St. Germaine, editor-in-chief and publisher, respectively, were accused of denying the Holocaust and advocating for the legalization of rape in the newspaper. The men had argued the paper was meant to be satire, but Ontario court Judge Richard Blouin said there was nothing funny about their views. “YWN repeatedly and consistently dehumanized Jews and women,” Blouin said in his ruling, according to The Globe and Mail. “Both men were fully aware of the unrelenting promotion of hate.” After the verdict, Sears, who compared himself to a persecuted Jesus, said he would be appealing. Sentencing in the case is scheduled for April 26.
