The Chicago-based parent company of the New York Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, and TheBaltimore Sun (among others) is changing its name from Tronc back to its original name, Tribune Publishing. According to the New York Daily News, the company announced its decision Thursday after operating with the Tronc name for over two years. The newspaper reports that the Tronc name, which was unveiled in June 2016 and stood for “Tribune Online Content,” was “ridiculed.” The name change comes amid rumors that two parties—McClatchy and The Donerail Group—have emerged as potential buyers of the parent company.
