President Trump took to Twitter late Saturday to declare that Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt is “doing a great job,” apparently trying to quash the controversy surrounding Pruitt’s spending habits. Amid reports Pruitt’s 24-hour security detail, raises for staff, and lavish travel habits have cost taxpayers millions, Trump said the EPA administrator’s work at the agency has saved the country “billions of dollars.” “While Security spending was somewhat more than his predecessor, Scott Pruitt has received death threats because of his bold actions at EPA,” Trump wrote. As for scrutiny over Pruitt’s rental of a Capitol Hill condo from the wife of a prominent energy lobbyist, Trump said the $50-a-night rent was “about market rate,” while travel expenses are “OK.”
