A Trump-endorsed candidate who ran campaign ads showing him wielding a shotgun and vowing to “round up” illegal immigrants has won Georgia’s Republican nomination for governor. Brian Kemp, now secretary of state, held a nearly 40-percentage-point lead in Tuesday’s runoff over his opponent, Casey Cagle, the state’s lieutenant governor. The president tweeted last week: “Brian is tough on crime, strong on the border and illegal immigration. He loves our Military and our Vets and protects our Second Amendment. I give him my full and total endorsement.” Kemp will face Stacey Abrams, the Democratic nominee, in November. If she wins, Abrams would be the first black woman to serve as governor of a state. Following his victory, Kemp said: “This is the state of Georgia: We are a red state.” He added: “And for that matter, we don’t need the radical left telling us how to live, worship, and raise our family.”
