Donald Trump has spread a baseless conspiracy theory that people protesting Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court are being paid for by billionaire George Soros. “The very rude elevator screamers are paid professionals only looking to make Senators look bad,” tweeted the president. “Don’t fall for it! Also, look at all of the professionally made identical signs. Paid for by Soros and others. These are not signs made in the basement from love!” Sexual assault survivors confronted Arizona Senator Jeff Flake in an elevator last week after he said he would vote in favor of Kavanaugh. Nearly 300 protesters were arrested yesterday as crowds of activists descended on Capitol Hill while lawmakers reviewed the FBI’s report on the allegations against Kavanaugh. A procedural vote in the Senate on Friday morning will be a crucial test of support for Kavanaugh’s nomination.
