President Donald Trump invited leaders of Congress to a briefing on border security scheduled for Wednesday, according to multiple news outlets. It is not clear what exactly will be discussed or whether leaders will accept the invitation, which comes after House Democrats unveiled a plan to reopen the government. The Democratic plan would reopen almost every closed agency for several months and provides funding for several projects, but does not include funding for Trump’s border wall. The president asked leaders for a compromise on Twitter, writing “Border Security and the Wall ‘thing’ and Shutdown is not where Nancy Pelosi wanted to start her tenure as Speaker! Let’s make a deal?” Pelosi responded, “.@realDonaldTrump has given Democrats a great opportunity to show how we will govern responsibly & quickly pass our plan to end the irresponsible #TrumpShutdown – just the first sign of things to come in our new Democratic Majority committed to working #ForThePeople.”
